Description

The candles are made of a combination of palm oil, rice wax and japanese wax and do not blow out easily. Its selling point is its low soot emission, making it the perfect candle to be used indoors as it can be easily cleaned.

History

Candles were first introduced to Japan during the Nara Period. Back then, candles were imported from ancient China and were mostly made of wax collected from beehive (Beewax). It was only available in the royal palace and temples as it was considered a luxury during that time. However, the Warosoku was officially introduced during the Muromochi period and mostly made of Japanese wax. While the demand for the warosoku increased during the Edo Period, the warosoku is then replaced by its western counterpart at the start of the Meiji era. But till this day, the warosoku is a much loved household item.
